The 2025 Nissan Armada boasts remarkable under-the-hood improvements that might not be immediately apparent. A significant upgrade for the 2025 model is the introduction of a new engine, inspired by the legendary Nissan GT-R, elevating the Armada’s performance to new heights in terms of power, speed, and fuel efficiency.

Despite maintaining a substantial 121.1-inch wheelbase, the 2025 Armada surprisingly opts for a smaller, turbocharged engine over a traditional V-8. This strategic move leverages the advantages of turbocharging, resulting in increased torque, superior acceleration, and reduced environmental impact.

What is the Powertrain of the 2025 Armada?

The 2025 Nissan Armada’s new powertrain, a twin-turbo V-6, delivers 516 pound-feet of torque, surpassing the outgoing V-8’s 413 pound-feet by 103 pound-feet. This achievement marks a new torque record for any Nissan production engine. Coupled with 425 horsepower, the Armada’s performance is undoubtedly robust, capable of effortlessly maneuvering its substantial frame and towing up to 8,500 pounds.

Nissan Vehicles with Most Torque

This innovative engine is a testament to Nissan’s engineering prowess. By incorporating a small groove into the turbocharger’s compressor inlet, inspired by the JDM Skyline, the development team reduced engine noise while simultaneously boosting output. This technological advancement mitigates turbulence and stalling at the compressor entry, resulting in a notable four-decibel decrease in turbocharger noise.

Demanding Conditions for Nissan’s Armada

The SUV’s engine further draws inspiration from the Skyline by integrating a scavenger oil pump, a technology initially pioneered in the GT-R to maintain optimal lubrication under grueling conditions.

To ensure the engine’s longevity and performance, the manufacturer employed Mar-M, a specialized nickel-based superalloy, for the turbocharger’s turbine wheels. This material, renowned for its exceptional heat resistance, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance, is commonly used in jet and gas turbine engines. By utilizing Mar-M, Nissan guarantees the engine’s reliability even under the most extreme operating conditions.

The 2025 Armada Underwent Rigorous Testing

While the 2025 Nissan Armada excels on paved roads, Nissan aimed to ensure its off-road capabilities met the highest standards. To achieve this, the Armada endured arduous testing in diverse environments across 13 states. From the frigid winters of Minnesota to the scorching heat of Death Valley, the SUV was subjected to challenging conditions to guarantee its durability and performance in any terrain.

“That’s why we confirmed the new engine in all these locations and temperatures multiple times during development. There are many design and calibration items specifically used to ensure performance for the U.S. For example, we put the vehicle through a variety of towing tests to validate high performance even when towing a heavy load.”
